Pro Bono Recognition List 2025

Pam Sanghera of our International Children’s Department has been recognised in the Pro Bono Recognition List 2025, proudly announced by the Attorney General’s Pro Bono Committee.

This list recognises lawyers who have dedicated 25 hours or more of pro bono work in the last year. Lady Chief Justice welcomed the publication of the list, now in its second year, and commented “pro bono is not a substitute for legal aid but it is a valuable part of our system of justice’.

Pam has dedicated many hours over many years assisting those who find themselves in unfair and unfortunate situations particularly in international child abduction and relocation cases. It is a known issue that Respondents in Hague Convention proceedings do not receive automatic legal aid (whereas the applicants do). Respondents must undergo a means and merits assessment for legal aid which in a lot of cases they could be slightly over the threshold or otherwise ineligible but this places Respondents in an unfair situation in having to navigate extremely complex legal proceedings without legal assistance. Pam has dedicated pro bono work to assisting Respondents prepare their cases and even represent in court proceedings with probono counsel’s assistance.
